Met Gala 2019 Best Looks

The Met Gala marked it’s 71 Anniversary  at  the New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Arts last week Monday the 6th of May. The Gala was founded by publicist Eleanor Lambert in 1948 to encourage donations from New York’s high society in the fields of art, Fashion and music for the Met’s Costume Institute and celebrate the grand opening of its latest exhibition.

Met Gala is the Oscars of the fashion world and happens annually on the first Monday of May centered on the theme of the new exhibition. This year’s gala theme was Camp: Note on Fashion a theme that most people struggled to define among them Nicki Minaj. The theme was based on the spirit of extravagance and embracing what is unusual and/ unnatural .

The invite only event played host to celebrities, designers and costume enthusiasts all dressed up according to their interpretation of the theme.

Here are some of the  themes and outfits that caught our eyes..

Lupita wore Versace outfit but it is her hair that stood out the most for us. The Hallelujah combs took us waay back to the hot comb days and the deeper meaning behind it made it even more special. “…Our goal is to continue to demonstrate the power of our hair #texture that it is the most moldable and luxurious #hair texture there is” said Lupita’s Hairstylist Vernon Francois

Cardi B’s ruby red quilted and feathered gown by Thom Browne need 10 attendants to carry her train. The look was reminiscent to Rihanna’s 2015 Met Gala look which was designed by Guo Pei. getty images
Kim K made her inaugural Met gala appearance in 2013 when she was pregnant with North West and she has been attending the Gala religiously ever since. Kim was definitely the most oiled and one with the tightest outfit that she even had to take breathing lesson!!! Her outfit was designed by Thierry Mugler who had to come out of retirement to bring to fruition a vision he’s always had of Kim as California girl coming out the ocean dripping wet, her dress clinging on her body and on the red carpet!  The latex corseted  dress took Mr. Mugler 8 months to make and Kim wore her hair with a wet look, her skin soaked with oil to complete the wet look. And girl… she killed it!
Katy perry  showed up at the event as a human chandelier! The outfit was by Jeremy Scott of Moschino. The outfit even had hidden batteries to light the candles! Katy later became a walking hamburger complete with a lettuce dress and a toothpick hat for the rest of the night.Liza Koshy looked stunning in a Balmain pink feather structured dress which she paired with Aldo pink heels and completed the look with a Judith Leiber bag.

Nicki Minaj wore a pink Prabal Gurung dress with a sweeping train and a jeweled overlay on the bodice. When she was asked what inspired her look, she said:”I have no clue, because up until today I had no idea what camp was. So, I don’t even know if this is camp to be honest.”

Celine Dion  in  Oscar de la Renta outfit. Like Nicki Minaj, Celine Dion too was confused about this year’s theme but seems she nailed it in the end with a fringe dress and matching feather hat. She interpreted Camping as “luxurious, antique, and timeless” and she killed it !
